The developer of Viewpoint Estates, Michael Volt, will be donating a 2,100 square foot parcel of land to the District of Sooke.
This development is near Maple Park Terrace (north of Grant Road, just off Firewood).
The developer wanted to donate the lands to the District, possibly for a dog park area or just an open space, to complement an existing park in that area.
Jared Steingard, who presented the delegation (a presentation to Council, made on September 18 2017) on behalf of developer Michael Volt said the neighbourhood is in need of such a park, and noted the developer has purchased this property for this reason.
A decision needed to be made quickly though, as the the original owner is selling the adjoining property. If the park is not sub-divided now, it will be sold.
Large rocks and debris would have to be removed, and the property would by hydro-seeded with a cedar hedge edging in areas.
It was received by Council, with a purpose yet to be determined.
Since you’re here, we have a small favour to ask.
At 1.7 million page views over the past year, more people than ever are reading SPN. We had hoped advertising local services and events would sustain this service, but that has not come to pass. Advertising revenues are falling; status quo is unsustainable. Readers, please consider a small monthly donation. This can help secure the future of SPN. Business owners: Please consider an ad. More than massive local exposure, you will also be affiliated with an independent business that is 100% local, 99% paperless, and highly valued by the 98%. That’s priceless.
