“We need new members, especially those willing to stand on the Board and lead special interest groups.“
Perhaps you are new to town, or been here a while, looking for a way to meet interesting people.
Well, artists are notoriously “interesting”!
The Arts Council Council, formed in 1987 has been active for 30 years sponsoring events such as Family Fun Day at SEAPARC in the spring, Artifacts Art Show at the Museum, Art in the Park and Beach Art at Whiffin Spit in September.
The SCAC also collaborates with the Sooke Fine Art Society Show “Appetite for Art” at the Prestige, does fundraising by holding raffles and doing live painting to auction off for charity, and lastly provides grants for youth art scholarships.
Funding from the Provincial Arts Council brings money into Sooke thus allowing SCAC to help groups with special needs in the community: dance, performance, music and other endeavours.
The Provincial grant depends in part on the number of members we have and a matching grant based on the District of Sooke grant.
This money the SCAC brings into Sooke is well used in the Community and is guided Members.
The first meeting of the season is the first Tuesday of the month, September 5 at Sooke Harbour House at 6:30 pm.
Come meet a dynamic group doing fun things in the Arts community and add your voice!
