District of #Sooke 2017 Tax Sale has been cancelled!
— SookeCa (@SookeCa) September 25, 2017
Please be informed that the annual Tax Sale (scheduled for today) by the District of Sooke has been cancelled. No reason has been given. The mayor of Sooke, Maja Tait, says it’s because there are no delinquent properties.
A tax sale is a public auction of properties within a municipality which have outstanding property taxes.
According to the District’s web write-up on delinquent taxes, “Taxes that are delinquent are subject to interest under Provincial Legislation. Properties with delinquent taxes will be sold on September 25, 2017 unless the delinquent taxes with interest are paid.”
Property owners who are delinquent should know it. The provincial government details the process on its website, here. Langford has a good write-up on their process (as does Colwood and View Royal) in case you are interested.
