Just after 10:00 am on Tuesday December 27, Sooke RCMP were called to the Pacheedaht First Nation in Port Renfrew, for a report of a burned vehicle. The complainant believed there to be the remains of a person inside.
Upon arrival, Sooke RCMP officers found what appeared to be burned human remains inside the vehicle, a Grey 2004 Pontiac Grand Am.
The investigation is continuing with assistance from the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU), in co-ordination with the BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Section.
The identity of the remains has yet to be determined.
