Sooke resident Tanis Nielsen-Rhoads issued the following Food Bank Challenge to all residents of Sooke today.
“In light of the shortage at the Sooke Food Bank I challenge you to spend 10 minutes gathering items to donate. I tend to stock pile, and in 10 minutes I gathered 42 pounds of food for the food bank. Not Kraft dinner but canned tomatoes, gluten free pasta, rice and beans canned veggies and a few boxes of cookies cause well everyone needs treats.
“If you can’t get it to the food bank or one of the drop off locations like village, shoppers etc I can arrange to pick up. If you don’t have extras right now consider either donating a bit of cash or picking up a few extra items when you are grocery shopping this week. This affects us all in our community.”
The Sooke Food Bank is located at 2037 Shields Road, across from the Legion Hall.
According to Sooke Region Resources website, “The Food Bank is open the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Thursdays of each month from 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. … Access to the Food Bank is across from the murals in the parking lot, across from Mom’s Cafe. For more information please leave a message at 250-642-7666 and someone will return your call.”
