ICBC survey: half of drivers using winter tires this year — 33 Comments

  1. Yes I do have winter tires which I swap out for summers.
My job requires I be there on time and between my car and winter tires, Im pretty darn sure I will make it.

  2. Yes because you just never know!! Better to be safe than sorry, a lot of ppl think because they have a 4×4 they will be ok, but your vehicle is as only as good as the tires that are on them!

  3. Is it not the law to have them by the end of October? I don’t drive but as someone who walks and uses the buses I am all for people having the right tires for the weather conditions. Even if it doesn’t snow, frosty conditions are just as slippery.

    • Don’t be so sure. Winter tyres definitley improve grip in all conditions but do not ensure ‘no scary moments’ on any kind of ice or snow for that matter.

  4. I’ve lived where there is real winter and I still have studded winter tires and haven’t bothered putting them on since I moved here because this place has a rainy season, not a real winter.

  5. Funny, All Season tires are fine in Fort Erie, ON. Had no problems at all the whole 6 years I lived there, and they get a lot of snow every year..!

  6. Once again overkill for something that should not be an issue!!! DRIVE FOR THE CONDITIONS AND IF YOU ARE NOT CONFIDENT OR ARE INEXPERIENCED TO DRIVE IN SNOW, THEN STAY OFF THE ROADS!!!

    • Duncan Morrison yes, you are correct…still does not negate the fact that there is not a requirement for full blown snow tires on ones vehicle. Like another post in here, I grew up in a snow belt and used all-season radials every year without any problems…just have to know how to drive for the conditions.

    • Doc, I grew up in Eastern Washington and my brother refuses studded tires because he would prefer to actually feel the road instead of being confident in the tires until they snap free and lose traction.
