2,211 new BC COVID-19 cases and 45 deaths in BC, January 1-4, 2021
Since January 1 (SPN missed reporting on December 31, due to a hack attack), there have been 2,211 more diagnosed COVID-19 cases in B.C. and 8,785 people are actively being monitored.
- January 1: 565 new cases
- January 2: 607 new cases
- January 3: 500 new cases
- January 4: 539 new cases
Case Counts:
- Total cases in B.C. since the pandemic began: 54, 201. Of the new cases, the breakdown is as follows:
- Vancouver Coastal Health: 389 new cases
- Fraser Health: 1,301 new cases
- Island Health: 64 new cases
- Interior Health: 288 new cases
- Northern Health: 169 new cases
- Active cases: 6,823 (previously 7,551)
- Hospitalized cases: 351 (previously 379)
- Intensive care: 76 (previously 77)
- 45 new deaths (total 946)
- Recovered: 45,229 (previously 41,175)
- 1,451,775 individuals have been tested as of December 31, 2021,
(was 1,444,990 individuals have been tested as of Dec 30, 2020) - Suspected Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children or MIS-C: 16
- Since the start of immunizations, over 24,139 people have been vaccinated (previously 14,027), with just under half going to staff at long term care facilities
Even though we are flattening the second-wave curve, with Christmas behind us, Provincial Health Officer Bonnie Henry notes that we can expect to see an increase of cases. Please be aware of the symptoms, and if in doubt, stay at home. If you have been near someone who is ill, get tested. We must be cautious.
Common symptoms with COVID19 include fever/chills, persistent cough, loss of smell, and difficulty breathing. If symptoms appear call your health-care provider or 811 right away for further guidance. You can also check your symptoms online.
