The Sooke Region Communities Health Network (SRCHN) has worked to create a strong partnership of groups concerned with serving Sooke Region communities and promoting health and wellness.
SRCHN’s Age-Friendly Committee, that is supporting services for all generations, has been deeply involved with Seniors issues this past year. We have been working with the Seniors’ Drop-In to put together a proposal for a Seniors Centre, collaborating with BC Healthy Communities and ElderCare to pilot an online Seniors Information Hub that in the future will be used by Seniors and their adult children to better understand existing services in the region. Along with our own Sooke Region Volunteer Centre, we have been supporting Seniors’ Drop-In Society with Lifelong Learning sessions providing opportunities to learn new things, in addition and the Seniors Café taking place at the Little Vienna Bakery every Wednesday morning from 9:30-11:00 where Seniors can socialize.
Now SRCHN’s Age-Friendly Committee will pilot an Aging Well workshop provided by BC Healthy Communities. Our organization will test their new facilitators guide, which has been provided with the intention of sharing this province-wide. We are seeking community members aged 55 and above, relevant service providers and others with an interest in better understanding on how to age well in one’s own community. The objective is for the participants to understand and work on how their life quality can be improved upon. Five topics will be addressed in an interactive manner, namely: Health, Housing, Transportation, Finances and Social Connections.
The workshop will take place Thursday, December 14th at the Sooke Child, Youth and Family Centre, 6672 Wadams Way. The workshop will start at 1:00 pm and will be for four hours. It is recommended to come a bit in advance to get properly registered. Light refreshment will be served.
