Following is crucial information for parents of school-aged kids in Sooke regarding school buses.
UPDATE: School Bus Transportation
Starting this afternoon, additional temporary buses will be put on routes most needed.
The start-up of school with our two new high schools, large increase in new ridership and overall grade reconfiguration in the district have presented obstacles to our bus routes and times this year.
We understand that many families are affected by the changes and have contacted us to discuss. While we will do our best to answer inquiries, most of our resources will be put towards providing solutions to routes and changes. Thank you for your understanding.
Here are some of the obstacles that have led to a number of route changes to school bus transportation this year:
- Unregistered riders – Each year we look at numbers from previous years as well as take into account annual student growth in order to plan our routes based on a projected number of riders. To assist us with overcrowding and route planning, please register your child as soon as possible for the school bus if you have not already done so.
- Rapidly growing student population into new communities – Each new subdivision requires new bus routing. We do our best to keep up with the developments as well as the number of students living in them.
Beginning next week, temporary bus passes will be distributed to registered riders to ensure that only registered riders are being transported.
If you have a specific inquiry, please send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will do our best to reply in a timely manner to your email.
We will provide an update by next week about school bus changes. Thank you again for your patience as we work to develop a solution for all student riders.
