AVIVA Community Fund Application for “All-Weather Turf Field for Sooke”
If you had a chance, and it only cost you a few minutes of your time, would you help bring $100,000.00 to our community? Not only can you help, so can your friends and family here and around the world. The Sooke Community Association (SCA) and Sooke Soccer Club (SSC) have joined forces to make the dream of an all-weather turf field a reality. Their application through the AVIVA Community Fund is open for voting on Tuesday, Oct. 11th through Oct. 28th.
AVIVA has made voting much easier this year. Log in once online and cast all 18 of your votes for our project. (In previous years voters had to log in daily to vote.)
Once you’ve voted, share the link with your friends and family here and abroad so they can vote, and make a difference in your community as well. If you are old enough or young enough to have an email account, you can vote.
“We feel we have a very good chance of success with this application.” Says Laura Lockhart, SSC President. “Voting counts for 15 per cent of the criteria and we would like to receive the full 15 per cent. We feel we have defended our goals by addressing the other criteria of longevity, sustainability, impact on the community, likelihood of success, originality and quality of our application.”
SCA and SSC have much of the funding in place, as well as commitments for major support in the way of expertise, materials, equipment and volunteer labour. The field is being designed to serve soccer, football, lacrosse, rugby, field hockey and baseball. Project management, site work and other tasks will be largely done by volunteers and in-kind support, though the turf field will be professionally installed by FieldTurf.
