In the book “The Fairy Faith in Celtic Countries,” Alexander Carmichael (1832-1912) said “the Céilidh is a literary entertainment where stories and tales, poems and ballads are rehearsed and recited, songs are sung, conundrums are put, proverbs are quoted and many other literary matters are related and discussed.”
For a more in depth article on the Céilidh see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Céilidh but basically it’s a social get together which typically, in olden times, happened in winter when country folk needed to get out of the house and come together, keep each other company, sing, dance and talk about what was or even wasn’t on their minds, till someone mentioned it, if you get my drift.
In other words, the Céilidh is the place to be if you feel like being neighborly in a celebratory, exuberant atmosphere.
With this in mind, Ayurvedic Dr. Rishi Pandya email@example.com and I, Seamus Duggan, have arranged for a community get together on Mar. 31st, Sooke’s Premiere CeilidhUp!
- Sooke Community Hall
- March 31, starting at 7pm
We want the term CéilidUp! and the movement itself to go viral. Even in the summer time, a Céilidh can happen in a place like Ed McGregor park, for example. All’s needed is a band and for folks to come out. The band-stand would make for an excellent dance floor and the green space is great for kids to run.
This is our initial public offering for this event which, as you can see, will be free for the community to attend, thanks to the generous support of the business leaders in the community who are being sought to generously cover the cost involved.
It cannot happen unless that support is forthcoming.
The office of the Premier has been notified of our intent and we hope that The Honorable John Horgan, and family, will join Her Worship Maja Tait to further grace the event.
We are also looking for help to put this event on. Anyone who can spread the word on Social Media platforms, please do. If you have a suggestion as to a business leader who would want to get behind this effort please let us / him / her know. If you would like to help poster, help on the evening, know of an Irish Wolfhound that would like to enter the Dog Show, etc., just give us a call.
Thanks for your attention and …
Let CéilidhUp! be the Talk of the Town till Mar. 31st.
Let’s make it happen!
If you are willing and able to help out, please call
