On September 7, 2021, at approximately 2:00 a.m. The Sooke RCMP received reports of a single-vehicle collision. Upon arrival, the Sooke RCMP, Sooke Fire Department and BC Ambulance located the scene and found multiple persons with serious life-threatening injuries.
Sooke RCMP is providing an update on the investigation of a serious collision that occurred early Tuesday morning.
Police are now confirming that the collision in the 5800 Block of Sooke Road claimed the life of a 7-year-old child and sent four other people to the hospital.
Through investigation, it has been determined that the black Chevrolet Cavalier was travelling westbound on Sooke Road, struck a concrete curb near a bus stop before striking a tree.
The Vancouver Island RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) is now working in partnership on this investigation with the Sooke RCMP detachment, states Sergeant Chris Manseau of the BC RCMP Communication Services.
This investigation is expected to be a lengthy one, and a final determination on cause is anticipated to take some time.
The BC Coroners Service is also conducting a concurrent fact-finding investigation into this unexpected death.
