On February 27th 2020, the West Shore RMCP received a call of a male suspect in a Dodge Ram pickup truck dumping items on a dirt road near the 1500 block of Metchosin Rd in Metchosin.
The complainant called the police and used their own vehicle to block the road and prevent the truck from leaving. The suspect driver started reloading the items back into the truck and rammed the complainant’s vehicle in an attempt to get away. When this didn’t work, the suspect got out and ran on foot prior to police arrival. West Shore RCMP front line officers and the K-9 unit were deployed but the suspect was not located. Police determined the pickup truck was reported stolen out of Colwood on Feb 19th.
“The complaint snapped a photo of the suspect which assisted police in identifying the 37-year-old male suspect,” said Cst. Nancy SAGGAR, West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer.
On March 4th 2020, Cpl. Krauss of West Shore RCMP Traffic Services Unit was out patrolling and spotted the male suspect walking near the intersection of Goldspur Rd and Latoria Rd in Langford. The suspect was arrested and is set to appear in court today.
“We want to thank the complainant for calling the police and snapping a photo of the suspect. The complainant was fortunately uninjured in this case but their vehicle did sustain damage from the ramming. As these situations are unpredictable and can become dangerous, we do not recommend blocking in suspects.”
