The Sooke Folk Music Society is proud to partner with Sooke Community Theatre – EMCS Society to bring you Valdy and Adam Dobres on Saturday, October 19, 2019. This is a fund-raising concert to support The Sooke Food Bank, The Sooke Community Theatre—EMCS Society and the Sooke Folk Music Society.
Valdy has been part of the fabric of Canadian pop music for almost 40 years and is known for his ability to catch the small but telling moments that make up life. He has 16 albums, 22 singles, 4 Gold Records, nearly half a million units sold worldwide. He has 2 Juno awards and 7 Juno nominations (Country Male Vocalist & Folksinger). On TV he played a lead role on “The Beachcombers” as well as minor roles in 2 movie features. And last but not least, he was invested as a member of the Order of Canada in July 2012.
Adam Dobres is a folk-oriented guitarist with a fluid talent and adaptive sensibility. Born in Canada and currently living on Pender Island in British Columbia, he has toured all over the world. In 2016, he stepped into the spotlight with his eponymous debut album, earning him a nomination for instrumental artist of the year in the West Coast Music Awards. He’s played with Dustin Bentall’s alt-country group, worked closely with Cameron Latimer, and supported singer-songwriter Ridley Bent both on tour and on five albums. Together with Pharis Romero, Oliver Swain and Kendel Carson, he’s toured North America as part of old-time string band Outlaw Social. Adam’s guiding principle is that music has the power to convey the mystery and beauty of life and to bridge all cultural boundaries. These two amazing artists are not to be missed.
Tickets are $ 25.00 at the Stick Coffee Shop and Sooke Shoppers Drug Mart (cash only) or at the EMCS Program Office (cash, Debit, Credit Card).
Saturday, October 19, 2019, at 7:00 PM (Doors 6:30 PM).
