Why is dating so difficult these days?
Signed Dazed and confused
Dear Dazed And Confused:
In my practice people often ask that question. Dating used to be a lot easier than it is today. Texting has become the new norm when it comes to conversation. Unfortunately, it is a very detached way of creating a relationship. Dating apps and sites make it far to easy for people to swipe past someone who might actually be a good fit. Movies depict relationships as some kind of fantasy when in reality it is the millions of little things that people do for each other that make love grow. Society deems skinny women with too much makeup, botox, and so on to be beautiful instead of sharing about women who are natural and look good because their confidence shines rather than their makeup. Both men and women are no longer clear on what their role is (no offense to anyone who identifies as non male or non female, its just what I grew up with) anymore.
Dating can mean so many things. From casual sex to marriage, there are a variety of variations on the theme.
Dating doesn’t have to be hard. If you are searching for someone to love, go within. Start there, and the one who is meant for you will show up. No one can complete us. No one can save us and there is no one who can love us if we do not love ourselves.
Yes it’s more complicated these days, but it is still possible to have a great time in the dating scene. You might want to read an article I wrote several years ago called Flipping The Switch On Courting
