On October 31st, 2019, the West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit was patrolling Sooke Rd in Colwood when Cst. McKinney observed a white Nissan Pickup speeding along the roadway going approximately 80km/hr in a 50km/hr zone.
Cst. McKinney pulled the vehicle over. The vehicle was being driven by a new driver, they were given a warning for the speeding, and were issued a violation ticket for failing to display the new driver sign on the vehicle. After the ticket was issued the driver then sped away quickly. Cst. McKinney followed the driver and observed the vehicle speeding again at 102km/hr.
“This driver clearly did not heed the warning he was given for speeding the first time around,” said Cst. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP, Media Relations Officer.
“The driver was pulled over a second time and issued the original speeding ticket for going 80km/hr in a 50km/hr zone. A second violation ticket was issued for excessive speeding and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.”
In the last two days, two vehicles have been taken off the road and impounded for excessive speeding by the West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit. The unit is committed to keeping the public safe by targeting traffic violators. Please slow down, be mindful of other motorists and obey speed limits.
