On March 10, 2022, West Shore RCMP Traffic Services was conducting speed enforcement in the 3400 Block of Sooke Road in Metchosin.
During the course of this targeted enforcement, a vehicle was observed travelling eastbound at a high rate of speed. The Traffic officer activated his speed measuring device and obtained a reading of 142 km/hr in the posted 80km/hr zone.
The Traffic officer activated his emergency lights on his police vehicle and the suspect vehicle slowed down rapidly, squealing their tires as they came to a complete stop.
The driver was charged with Excessive Speed (a $368 fee) and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days, pursuant to the Motor Vehicle Act.
Think of how dangerous it would be trying to make a left turn onto Sooke road while someone is travelling at that rate of speed. Slow down, plan ahead and leave early if you are in a rush, says Cpl. Mike Jacobson with West Shore RCMPTraffic Services.
