The proprietors of East Meets West, the B&B they started five years ago, have decided to close their operations down and are moving to Boquete, Panama in December. Julie and Michael Howard moved to Sooke after living in Asia for almost 30 years.
“The last five years have been fantastic,” says Michael, “filled with wonderful guests from every corner of the world, drawn to Sooke for all kinds of good reasons (family reunions, hiking, old fashioned vacations) and drawn to us, maybe out of curiosity for our connections with Asia but for sure, because of Julie’s breakfasts which became legendary!”
With their decision to move south has come another decision: to sell all their Asian art and furniture that they brought back and indeed to sell everything in the BnB, from the Florentine chandelier to the paintings on the walls to the Kashmir carpet on the floor, and just about everything in-between: bedroom and dining room furniture, everything in the kitchen including appliances, in the office , in the barn, on the deck, big stuff, small stuff – the list goes on and on.
They are opening their doors this weekend at 4015 Otter Point Rd., on both Saturday and Sunday, from 10 to 3.
“Everybody is welcome to come to participate in this HUGE garage sale”, says Julie. She adds that ‘if anybody can’t make it on the weekend, they are welcome any day after the weekend if they phone beforehand (250-642-4989) to make sure that we are not out on an errand. We will be very happy if various bit and pieces of East Meets West find their home somewhere in Sooke where, in a real way, they should stay.”
