On Saturday 13th August, Ed MacGregor Park will come alive with the sights and sounds of the Sooke Art in the Park Festival from 10am to 8pm.
This annual one day festival is a local celebration of arts and crafts as well as performing arts.
A true community event, this year the festival will bring together a variety of music and entertainment for all ages. On stage musicians will include the Blue Tattoo Blues Band, the Rock Legacy Band, the Slivers Band and Curl Band. Performances by the Sooke Dance Studio, the Phoenix Belly Dancers, the Sooke Harbour Players and Fung Loy Kok Taoist Tai Chi offer something for everyone.
And for the kids, magician Donald Dunphy and the Tickles and Yowsa Clown Show will also be on stage, while Grover’s Balloons will be roaming the festival entertaining the young and young-at-heart throughout the afternoon.
One of the highlights of the festival is a Paint In with local artist Linda Gordon whose paintings have been exhibited in both galleries and juried art shows. Paint In sessions will be at 1pm and 3pm and offer festival goers the chance to paint with this talented artist. For your chance to join the fun, make sure to register in the Sooke Community Arts Council’s Pavilion Tent from 12 – 12.30pm. Participants will then be selected by lottery.
You can also stroll through the artisan market which will be offering local arts and crafts for sale.
Forget about the parking hassles – just leave your car at SEAPARC on Philips Rd and take the free shuttle to Ed MacGregor Park. The shuttle will operate throughout the event on the half hour – just look for the Seniors Activity Bus.
The Art in the Park Festival is organized by the Sooke Community Arts Council (SCAC). The SCAC is a non-profit organization that works to encourage participation and excellence in all forms of the arts; to provide opportunities to perform and exhibit the arts and as an advocate for the local arts community.
So come and enjoy a great family day out while supporting your local arts community.
