On March 22nd at 7:49 am Sooke RCMP received a complaint of a possible impaired driver, heading Westbound on Sooke Road.
At the time of the report the vehicle was nearing Connie Road, and was swerving from one side of the road to the other. There was a near miss head on collision with a fuel tanker truck which was eastbound. The complainant recorded the suspect’s driving on a dash mounted video camera, and updated police dispatch.
Sooke RCMP intercepted the vehicle as it entered a construction zone near Harbourview Road. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was arrested for Impaired Driving. A search warrant was executed on the vehicle, yielding a quantity of methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia.
A 44 year old male, a resident of Victoria is facing charges of Dangerous Driving, Impaired Driving, and possession of a controlled substance. He has been released on a Promise to Appear in Provincial court in Colwood on June 28th.
Members of the Sooke RCMP continue to clamp down impaired drivers in Sooke and through to Port Renfrew. Reports from members of the public such as this case of impaired and erratic drivers on Sooke Road are so important to us and come in on an almost daily basis. They are treated as a high priority.
