Bridge replacement work continues on Gillespie.
A spokesperson from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has provided the following statement:
“As part of the ongoing Highway 14 corridor improvement project, Gillespie Road at Roche Cove will be closed Sundays through Thursdays nightly, starting on July 22, 2018, as crews work to replace the single-lane Roche Cove bridge.
“Nightly closures will take place from 9:00 pm through 5:00 am and last roughly two weeks. Crews are installing bridge piers for the new two-lane bridge set to open in the fall of 2018.
“During the closures, a detour will be in effect via Kangaroo Road. Traffic controller personnel will be positioned to redirect traffic on Gillespie Road.”
The District of Sooke anticipates the work will be done by August 2. They have provided the following detour route:
