Organized by Maria Wang, HPS Lead Strings Teacher, the concert will showcase talents of the HPS Strings Faculty plus guest performers. The program features the Victoria Trio of Kate Rhodes on violin, Maria Wang on cello, and Tara Fenwick on piano, as well as solo works by Hollas Longton on violin.
“We want to show the students what their teachers can do, and also to share an evening of lovely music with the community,” said Wang.
The audience will be treated to works by Mozart and Brahms, plus a Sooke premiere of solo violin compositions by Hollas Longton. These are titled: “Quietly Flowing Along” (written 2018-19) and “Harmonic Labyrinth” (written 2009).
The concert takes place at 6pm on Jan 14th at Knox Presbyterian Church (2110 Church Road). Admission is by donation in support of HPS and its students’ participation in the Nationals Competition in Calgary this spring.
Kate Rhodes is well-known to Sooke audiences as the Concert Master of the Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra. Maria Wang holds a Masters Degree in Cello Performance from U Vic and is principal cellist with the Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra.
Hollas Longton is completing his Ph.D. studies at the University College Cork (Ireland). His music has been performed in Canada, the U.S. and abroad. Recently he composed and performed a new score to Arthur Miller’s “Death of a Salesman” which opened in Ireland before touring South America.
