Sadly, Ken Stratford, Mentor Strategic and the Chamber’s Strategic Advisor over the past number of years passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 10th.
Ken had a prolific background in economic development, business and entrepreneurism. In addition to being the CEO of Business Victoria for over twenty years, he was also the Economic Development Commissioner in Victoria for over two decades. Previously a senior manager with BC Ferries, he was responsible for marketing and vessel utilization. A few highlights of his lengthy career were creating the Vancouver Island Economic Developers Association and in 1986 chairing ‘Islands 86’, which brought eleven island nations to Vancouver Island to share their cultural and economic challenges. He was also a highly experienced speaker regionally, nationally and internationally.
On a local level, Ken has been a tremendous asset to the Sooke Region Chamber of Commerce offering both short and long term strategic planning. To his credit, the Chamber developed crucial portfolios for economic development, conference & convention management, business education and a host of other products and think piece reports.
Mr. Stratford was a natural mentor and a gifted speaker being able to comprehensively deliver his wisdom and insights to any audience on a variety of topics. His most recent presentation for the Chamber was at our Economic Development Symposium this past September. Read his inspiring keynote address here.
