On Sunday, June 7, Jessica Boquist and myself picked up 27 bags of illegally dumped drywall and house insulation at Muir Creek, west of Sooke.
Aside from the eco-criminality of the dumping, I think there could be a related concern of the cost of proper disposal: $5 per bag. But then, it could be argued that this expense should be taken into account as part of home building/renovation, therefore zero excuse for illegal dumping, particularly near a waterway and beautiful walking trail!
Hopefully the perpetrators will read or hear about this letter and be ashamed enough of their behaviour to never do this again.

[NOTE from Britt Santowski, Sooke PocketNews: While no photo was taken of Sunday’s clean-up, we were able to track down a photo of a similar massive clean-up from November, 2011. Here, three Muir Creek neighbours, Alanda, Christine and Connell, stand on top of a dumpster full of roofing materials. Fast-forward to 2015, and it’s drywall and insulation.]
