Marie-Térèse Little, Councillor, District of Metchosin,
Most people in our community have made outstanding efforts to adhere to the Provincial Health Order of November 19, 2020, suspending all events and social gatherings to significantly reduce COVID-19 transmission related to social interactions and travel. However, some have chosen to ignore and disregard these orders and advisories by travelling outside the country.
I learned in the first part of December that our December 7 Council meeting would be cancelled because Councillor Kahakauwila was out of the country travelling to Mexico. Upon her return, we were informed by Councillor Kahakauwila on an electronic Zoom meeting that she and her husband were in quarantine at home for 14 days.
There was no formal discussion with Mayor John Ranns, Councillor Kahakauwila or any other member of council or staff of Councillor Kahakauwila’s specific plan to visit Mexico in December. Furthermore, I did not at any time, endorse, support, or defend her choice to travel to Mexico contrary to Provincial Health Orders and travel advisories.

Interesting response considering there is a recorded zoom meeting from November 30th where Councillor Kahakawila informed everyone on council she would be travelling. Councillor Little was a participant of this meeting. At the last council meeting the mayor requested this recording be made public, which is a huge statement in itself.
If it is proven that everyone was informed what will the consequences be to the councillor(s) who have not only lied to the media and general public but more importantly to their constituents? The conflict this has caused amongst council is going to cause issues in decision making that will have long term consequences.
The residents of Metchosin deserve to know the truth.
