I walk with a cane, so yeah, I maybe a little slow. But please, when you’re in the grocery store, bank, whatever, please don’t cut me off.
I’ve had countless people zip right in front of me, where I’m walking, perhaps thinking that since I’m slower, it’d be no big deal. When I get cut off, it stops me dead in my tracks..often mid-stride. It usually happens from behind me, where I can’t see who’s about to do this. This leaves me unbalanced and startled.
I’m courteous. I stick close to the edge of the aisles, so that others may move freely around me. I can’t help it if the aisles are crowded though. Yet, I’m not to be used as a means by which you can get your shopping done faster.
I’ve fallen twice as a result, once injuring my knee and unable to walk for a week. Had I been able, I would have looked until I found the person who did this to me.
All I’m asking, is for folks to be courteous and patient with those with disabilities. And to those who’ve held doors open for me, or helped me up when I fell … many thanks.
