-Britt Santowski, SPN
I recently had the pleasure of meeting Sooke newcomer Benjamin Kendrick. While you may not know his name, a few of you (about 2,786) may well know his work, for he is the founder of the Meanwhile in Sooke Facebook page.
Benjamin recently moved to Sooke in pursuit of milder weather and milder politics. So far, we’ve been delivering on the first. He has family in the area, and after a busy life in Calgary as a web designer, he is now taking a bit of time to regroup and reset his focus.
So what does one do when a major life change is underway? Launch a crazy-succesful Facebook page, of course!
Benjamin launched Meanwhile in Sooke earlier this month, and he already has double the like of SPN, which launched in January. (I’m seeing a therapist to deal with that one, but I’ll get over it.)
He launched it as a way to for him to discover the lighter side of the new community he has chosen to call home. And, given that the page is not even one month old, I’d say he’s doing it!
About Meanwhile in Sooke[sam id=”15″ codes=”true”]Meanwhile in Sooke is a member-driven page, meaning most of the content is provided by membership, via submission through the website. Benjamin gives credit to all of the photographers who submit their images to his site.
“If I’m offending anyone It’s not my intention,” he writes on the top post on his page. “Just a funny look at the community.”
And in the write-up describing the page is this description: “A page dedicated to people who live in Sooke. The lighter side of Sooke life. Please post your funny Sooke memes, photos, jokes.”
As with all humour, not all posts will appeal to all people, so consider yourself forewarned.
With Benjamin’s blessing, Sooke PocketNews will be sharing some of the photos that grace his Facebook page over the past week. If you want to see the full gallery, click through on the link below.
