An initiative that started just under one year ago has been successfully concluded. On April 7, 2014, CRD Director Mike Hicks announced the redesign of Sooke’s Bike Park. On March 28, 2015 SEAPARC, Sooke and a number of cyclists celebrated the grand opening of the new bike park, just to the west of the SEAPARC parking lot.
The District of Sooke posted the following on their website:
The bike park at SEAPARC has been upgraded and access via Throup Road and SEAPARC have been improved thanks to a $75,000 grant from the Capital Regional District and funds from SEAPARC and the District of Sooke. New construction of a pump track, improvements to the existing Throup Road trail to more pedestrian friendly and creating new trail connections to the park are just a few of the items that have been completed to date.
SEAPARC, the District of Sooke and the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area partnered to obtain funds from the CRD-Active Transportation Innovative Infrastructure Funding Program .
A recent update stated that the Grand Opening on March 28 would see “the Hike and Bike Connector Trails and Pump Track open for use. However, due to recent heavy rainfall, final completion of the new bike dirt jumps has be”
Our major Maja Tait posted the following video on her Facebook Community Page, along with a statement that read:
Sooke riders try out the ‘DD’ jumps! Way to go!!
This section of the park will be temporarily closed until the jumps settle as there is a lot of moisture in the mounds.
The area around has been seeded and starting to take root.
What an attractive facility!
Now is the time to get your bike ready to “get out and ride”.
SEAPARC posted the following picture, stating, “This is what it is all about! Thanks everyone for making the grand opening a truly fantastic day.”
