Have you noticed the many changes along Sooke Road?
Besides the flashing cautionary sign on Sooke at Kangaroo Road and the finalized bus pullouts, there are also two new crosswalks in close proximity to each other on Sooke Road, near the new bus pullouts: One on Sooke Rd. at Harbourview, and one on Sooke Rd at the Shell Station.
Drivers please note that pedestrians have the right of way in any crosswalk. There are no pedestrian contolled alert lights at these intersection (which help you better notice the pedestrian who btw has right of way). You must stop when you see a pedestrian in your path of travel. Once a pedestrian has completed crossing your part of the road, you may proceed if it is safe to do so. Also, you should never pass a car at a crosswalk, as they may be slowing or stopping for a pedestrian.
As a pedestrian crossing here, please cross with caution. While you may indeed have the right of way, arguing that right from a hospital bed is not ideal. Be sure the car approaching has seen you and is slowing down, and also double check to make sure the car behind it is also slowing down. When it is safe to do so, cross.
