It is with immense sadness that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of Lars Nyberg, who died on April 12th 2017 at Maui Memorial Medical Centre.
Anyone who met Lars soon discovered what a kind and gentle man he was. He spent most of his young life building and riding bike trails in Sooke; his love for his community was evident in everything that he did. He delighted in his work, fishing crabs with the Heggelund family. He would spend hours, days, and weeks in the heavy Sooke bush, creating trails that could be used by the biking community. He loved adventure and worked hard to build a life that everyone around him was proud of.
Lars met the love of his life, Sydney Gallant, at the end of 2011. Sydney quickly fell in love with Lars’s warmth, generosity, and modesty. They were engaged on April 4th, 2016, and began to plan the wedding. On April 8th, 2017, Sydney and Lars married on the beach in Maui. Their wedding was a magical day of love that Sydney will hold close to her heart forever.
Lars is survived by his wife Sydney, mother Tia, grandmother Irene, his brothers Stephen and Noah, sisters Heather and Emily, and his loving uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his father Rodney.
The loss of Lars will leave a hole in the Sooke community. We will miss his warm presence, his unwavering dedication to his family and friends, and his ability to love everyone, even in the face of adversity.
A celebration of life will be held at the Sooke Community Hall on Saturday May 27th at 3:00pm.
