Oliver! is an English musical, with music and lyrics by Lionel Bart. The musical is based upon the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. This popular English musical first premiered in 1960, and it has finally arrived in Sooke!
Oliver! will be playing at the E.M.C.S. Community Theatre in Sooke from Friday 10th November to Saturday 25th November, on Friday evenings and two shows on Saturdays (see the full schedule below). This is a family show being put on by the Sooke Harbour Players.
The casting and crew for this family show attracted a lot of Sooke families. One family has three generations involved. Another has three sisters (twins and a younger sister) taking part. Characters “Artful Dodger” and “Beth” are brother and sister, while their parents are “Mr. Sowerberry” and “The Milkmaid.” Our “Oliver” has his sister and his dad sharing the stage with him. “Mr. Bumble” and “Widow Corney are husband and wife, and their daughter is “Matron.” The wardrobe mistress’s children are in the production too, and my long suffering wife is playing “Mrs. Sowerberry.”
There are many other families involved, including both of our choreographers have who family members involved. Even Director Drew Kemp is assisted in the production by his wife Felicity.
