POLL: According to you, is SPN a newspaper, a blog, or social media? — 8 Comments

  1. To me you are a newspaper, you report things happening in Sooke, some that would be reported by a traditional newspaper, but at times more importantly you report on things people in Sooke are talking/gossiping about. And you get to the facts. You are an important source of information for me. Keep up the good work

  2. Technically you don’t meet the criteria as a blog, sorry! Your facebook page certainly fills the social media side and your website fills all my “newspaper” needs. And your right, it doesn’t matter what you are perceived as, providing your business license is up to date and you are providing me (and the community) with your continued great service. Always loving it.

  3. Molten lava to us for sure. More a newspaper but totally connected to what people in the community are concerned about. You investigate the humour, pictures, and concerns, that the everyday person is wondering about at the moment or has no clue until they read it in SPN. I feel you are so about the facts and that is soooo refreshing in itself. Keep it coming for all of us that know about you and all that will find out very soon. Oh and Thank you for it all.

  4. Well I think it is the best venue in the modern day to inform the public and get reaction from them. Our other news choices don’t allow open comment like this. It is refreshing to see businesses and government members joining in to exchange information. This exchange sometimes happens immediately without waiting for a publishing deadline. SPN has created a unique forum for us all.

  5. Newspaper for sure!!! You provide exactly the same as a print newspaper but in a time sensitive manner. Personal I’d like a ‘fantastic’ button too 🙂

  6. What is SPN’s primary purpose? Reporting local news and creating a platform for the sharing of news.

+Open comments all the way + good journalism = Online Newspaper (or “Electronic Newspaper”) 100%

The answer is important for it may open new avenues for access, news reporting, and advertiser support.

See this from Wikipedia as well for more https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_newspaper

“An online newspaper is the online version of a newspaper, either as a stand-alone publication or as the online version of a printed periodical. Going online created more opportunities for newspapers, such as competing with broadcast journalism in presenting breaking news in a more timely manner.”

Social media: “websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.” Prescriptively social media has as its main purpose the participation in social newtworking (as opposed to the reporting of news).

Blogs: “a Web site that contains online personal reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer; also : the contents of such a site” – Webster’s. Blogs are more about personal reflections and opinions of small groups a Web site that contains online personal reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer; also : the contents of such a site.
The main purpose of a blog is expression, not reporting the news, including the local news.

Hands-down, SPN is an online newspaper or electronic newspaper.

  7. Newspaper, absolutely! As a newer member of the community, it is my go-to guide as well for everything business, restaurant and events. A great resource, thank you!

  8. Britt,
Hopefully the assessment of the CRA is the most advantageous one tax wise.
I do see it as an online newspaper and according to your poll results so far..that is
    an excellent indicator.
