At last evening’s Board of Education meeting, an election was held for the position of Chairperson of the Board.
Board Chair Bob Phillips informed Trustees last month of his intention to resign from the position as Board Chair. He will continue to serve in the capacity of Trustee. Mr. Phillips is a long serving Trustee, first elected in 1996. He has previously served as Vice Chairperson for four years.
Superintendent Jim Cambridge praised Mr. Phillips’ leadership and dedication:
“Bob has worked extremely hard on developing a strong corporate Board which represents the values of the community and aspirations of parents for their children. Sooke School District has been fortunate to have solid, committed experience on the Board, with three current Trustees having previously served as Board Chairperson.”
Elected by acclamation, Trustee Ravi Parmar becomes the new Chairperson of the Board of Education, effective immediately.
Mr. Parmar was elected to the Board November, 2014. He is currently a political science student at the University of Victoria and was previously a student in the Sooke School District.
