Delegation to Council details expanded RCMP Musical Ride tickets sales, unveils preshow, announces free concert
At the July 9 2018 Regular Council meeting Sooke Lion Steve Wright presented an update on the RCMP Musical Ride and announced an upcoming free concert by the National Band of Naval Reserve performance coming to McGregor Park on August 12.
RCMP Musical Ride update
The RCMP Musical Ride will take place in Sooke on August 18 and 19, 2018, and will take place at the Fred Milne Park (2249 Sooke River Rd).
Ticket sales are going very well. In June, tickets were only available in Sooke. After Canada Day, they broadened their reach. Ticket sales locations have now been expanded from our Sooke locations (Sooke Shoppers Drug Mart, Sooke Pharmasave and Sooke RCMP Detachment) to include Victoria at Esquimalt Dry Cleaners at 1153 Esquimalt Rd and in Langford at Willow Wind Feed at 2714 Sooke Rd.
Current Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia Janet Austin will attend the Saturday afternoon event on August 18, 2018. On Sunday, the BC Premier John Horgan will be there.
The Lions have arranged for riders and horses to attend Ayre Manor for seniors who can’t attend, on Sunday morning.
Preshow entertainment has been organized with a performance from National Band of the Naval Reserve, a world class band never performed in Sooke before. The bands will also provide a free performance at Ed McGregor Park.

Free National Band of Naval Reserve concert August 12, 2018
The second item that Wright presented was a request that the Sooke Lion’s Club be permitted to use Ed McGregor Park for the National Band of Naval Reserve performance. They asked that the Park Use Permit fees be waived and additional toilets be provided at the expense of the District of Sooke, and that the Sooke Lion’s Club be provided $1,000 from the Public and Government Relations for the purposes of hosting a reception.
This request was supported by all elected officials.
The mayor will attend the Band performance at the Ed McGregor Park.
SPN will be providing more information on the performance time as that information becomes available.
Following is a video found on Youtube. Ignore the “Nadan” text at the beginning of the video, this is indeed the National Band of the Naval Reserve. We selected this video (among many) as it seemed to capture the diverse talent of the players.
Attendance: Mayor Maja Tait and Councillors Ebony Logins, Kevin Pearson, Brenda Parkinson, Rick Kasper, Kerrie Reay, Bev Berger.

Hi Britt, the Naval Reserve Band will probably be moved to the Sooke River Campground. For the show on Aug 12th. More parking than Ed Macgregor Park. You may want to confirm the move with Steve Wright.
