As the result of civilian complaint, members of the Sooke RCMP attended the Sooke Harbour Marina, August 8, at 5:23 p.m.
On approaching the subjects who matched the description provided, one subject proceeded to dump a cooler filled with crab into the ocean. An approaching officer directed him to stop. He did not. The officer ran to his location and managed to still located one undersized male.
The male received a Violation Ticket for possession of an undersized (male) Dungeness crab, and the cooler and four crab traps were seized and destroyed.
The male charged is 69 years of age and resides in Port Moody.
The Sooke RCMP want to thank members of the community for their continued support on this issue and others. Along with Department of Fisheries we continue to make progress on the concerning issue of illegal fishing in the Sooke Basin.
