At their May 18 meeting, the SEAPARC commission voted to offer the Seniors discount rate of $15 for 18 holes of golf at Sooke’s DeMamial Creek Golf Course for all weekdays, Monday to Friday.
The rate is currently offered only on Mondays and Wednesdays, and is so popular that it is hoped that by offering the discount to golfers aged 60 years and older during all weekdays, the volume will be spread out.
It was also reported that both Journey and Edward Milne schools were utilizing the course for their golfing programs.
“The course is in beautiful shape, all systems are go and it is tremendous to see the great enthusiasm and support from the seniors, schools and residents throughout the Sooke and Capital Region,” said SEAPARC Chair Mike Hicks.
The DeMamial Creek Golf Course is located at 6518 Throup Rd in Sooke. It is a nine hole Executive Par 3 Course, geared for all skills and abilities. The Golf Course hours of operation are on Monday to Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
On April 30, 2016 residents of the District of Sooke and the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area voted in favour of purchasing land for the future development and enhancement of recreation services. It was decided the golf course will open for the coming season to benefit the community and region. In July, 2016, the golf course was officially re-opened under SEAPARC ownership.
