Sooke Commuters: Sooke Road Closed this morning
Due to a fire on the 4000 block of Sooke Road, the road in that area is closed. Referencing the Sooke RCMP, The Q! tweets that Sooke Rd is closed between Kangaroo Rd and Humpback Rd. According to CBC radio, there are three fire departments on hand (Metchosin, Sooke and Langford) and the challenge is getting water the structure fire. The Metchosin fire chief, Chief Dunlop, recommends using the Kangaroo and Happy Valley. She adds that single lane traffic will be open as soon as possible.

Sooke Road closed due to structure fire – 4000 block. Detour around through Kangaroo / Happy Valley Road

There is a quick detour route off Humpback…turn left on LINDHOLM instead of going all the way to Rocky Pt. Saves about 15 minutes.
Off Humpback? Humpback goes to TCH. -Britt
Ah! Off Kangaroo Rd. Thanks Betsy! Great recommendation.
Oooops…sorry…Kangaroo..:)
LINDHOLM is about 3 minutes down Kangaroo ..turns left and comes out on Happy Valley.
I do that all the time too!
Not too many people do. Lots were going straight thru this morning
Update from Sorensen on Twitter as follows: “#sooke rd expected to open to single lane traffic within next 30 minutes to 1 hour from now”

CFAX just announced Sooke Road is now open to alternating single lane traffic
Thanks Debbie! Chief Dunlop also tweeted, “Sooke Road now open in both direction – please drive with caution as fire crews still on scene.”
Fire started at around 5:10 a.m., according to The Q! The one occupant got out OK. No one physically injured. One house destroyed.

Hi Liz, I’m looking into it. Seems to be something in the “transporter” from Facebook to the online publication. The online publication is set right (your comment is from 12:11pm), and the Facebook comments are all right … on Facebook. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! If there’s something I can do, it will be done!! -Britt
