Dave Barlow owns and operates Woof Waggin, a multi-faceted pet care service (primarily dogs). According to his facebook page (referenced below), Woof Waggin serves pet owners in Sooke, Langford, and the Metchosin areas.
He offers dog walking and in-house pet sitting.
His inspiration for providing this service comes from his own dog, Madison Moon. “What a long way we’ve come in 2 short years,” he notes on his facebook page by the picture of this black canine beauty. “Love you to the moon and back Madison.”

When did you first know that you wanted to be self employed? Are you an entrepreneur by choice or by necessity?[sam id=”15″ codes=”true”]It’s been a few years now. Becoming an entrepreneur is by choice for me.
What support systems did you have in place when you started?
My support system included friends ,family, and other acquaintances in business.the unbelievable support from friends and family
What is the ONE thing a starting entrepreneur should always do when they first get started?
What should they never do?
Never give up!
What keeps you motivated?
Thinking of ideas to make the business the best it can be on a daily basis keeps me motivated, as does working towards a goal of operating a truly successful business.
What are the biggest rewards and the worst challenges?
The biggest rewards are watching the business grow, and spending plenty of time outdoors. A challenge is working another full time job while building the business. I could do without a second job!
Looking back, knowing what you now know, what would you have done differently?
Originally, I didn’t pay close enough attention to advertising and marketing details. I will always pay close attention to these details from now on.
At what point should an entrepreneur take the “leap of faith” and start up their business?
I believe that if you have an idea for a business you should take the leap as soon as you can.
Any financial management advice or tips you’d like to offer?
Keep everything organized.keep clear and precise invoices and hire an accountant.
