The Sooke Fire Rescue Department is now accepting applicants for Paid on Call Firefighter positions.
Join the team and gain valuable skills that enable you to help residents of Sooke in a time of need. All Firefighter training, health and wellness programs are provided through the department. Remuneration levels are based on individual contributions, rank and qualifications that provide hourly compensation for selected emergency response activities.
Sooke Fire Rescue relies on Paid On-call Firefighters to complement the career response team in an effort to meet the service levels that a growing community demands. While volunteer members have received a stipend for their service in the past, the Paid On-Call model was adopted this year and is becoming increasingly common amongst other municipalities within the region, province – and nation.
“The move towards a Paid On-Call model was inspired by the Sooke Volunteer Firefighters Association membership, and I was happy to support the initiative,” shares Chief, Kenn Mount. “It’s an increasingly common model that helps offset some of the costs of being a volunteer,” Mount offered. “I think it’s important to provide some financial recognition for the meaningful work our members step up to provide.”
Residents of Sooke are invited to pick up an application to join the January 2020 recruit training class and submit a package no later than September 28, 2019. Visit the Fire Rescue Recruitment pages at www.sooke.ca for more details. Reach out to Firefighter Ben Temple at email@example.com or at 250.642.5422 to learn more about the experience.
