“It will not be a full market, but we are really excited to be taking the first step toward a normal market season for Sooke” says market manager, Teresa Willman.
The BC Centre for Disease Control considers farmers markets an “essential service” although at this time farmers may only sell farm products (including fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, edible plants and seedlings). Although the Provincial Health Officer is allowing all vendors to now sell at farmer’s market in BC, here in Sooke we don’t have the space at this time to meet the public health distancing requirements to accommodate all our vendors. So for now, the market will operate with our local farmers only.
For the past few weeks, customers could only shop online and pick up their orders individually from local farmers. Starting June 6 from 10:00 – 12:00, customers can purchase produce from their favourite local farms at the Sooke Country Market site – Otter Point and Eustace.
“It will be a very well-controlled situation, with safety protocols in place at the entrance and exit to the market” Willman, assures customers. “A limited number of people will be allowed into the market space and they will be reminded to stay six feet from each other and the farmers”.
“This amazing weather is great for our vegetable harvest and we want to share all that produce with the public in Sooke”.
Customers can continue to use the local line order site and pick up their orders at the market site from 9:30 am (before the market opens to the public at 10:00) until 12 pm.
