Last night, October 27th around 5:00 p.m., there was an altercation between two males on the Boardwalk at Ed McGregor Park in Sooke. After striking the other male with a pistol in the head, the suspect male was last seen running down the boardwalk westbound.
“We believe there were numerous witnesses to this assault and it is essential that we speak with them,” says Sooke’s Staff Sergeant Jeff McArthur.
Following the assault, the suspect, a caucasian male 5’7″ in height, 145 pounds, short dark hair, a trimmed beard, wearing blue shorts and a dark hoody then returned to a vehicle to flee the area.
Seeing a police car closing in, the suspect drove his car over a residential property, down a steep flight of stairs and came to rest in a treed area above the beach near Ed McGregor Park. The suspect fled on foot. The vehicle was determined to be stolen out of Nanaimo. Police located other stolen property from thefts in other areas of Vancouver Island in the vehicle.
Sooke Detachment RCMP members, assisted by members of the Saanich Police Department, contained the area. The suspect and the pistol used have not yet been located.
“The actions of this individual put the public at great risk,” says S/Sgt McArthur We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the assault on the boardwalk at Ed McGregor Park last night around 5 pm to please contact the Sooke RCMP immediately.”
A further release with the name of the accused with be forwarded once charges are laid.
