As reported earlier on SPN:
This head-on collision involved two vehicles, and closed Sooke Road in both directions shortly before 4:30 pm on Friday December 29. There was one fatality and one hospitalization (later released).
A detour was available, but due to the narrowness of the detour, buses were unable to get through. For the duration of the evening, the BC Transit bus 61 went only as far as the 17 Mile House Pub. Bus service to and through and out of Sooke was not available.
On seeing stranded bus riders, some stepped up to ferry riders from the 17 Mile House Pub to Sooke.
According to the Sooke Fire Rescue Service, there was a minor incident on the detour route, adding additional complications for a very short period of time. A tow truck quickly tended to the vehicle impacting the detour route.
BC Hydro had to cut off power in the area of the accident in order to attend to the pole that was affected during the crash.
According to an SPN reader, the road reopened at 11:05 pm, December 29.
