At a special Council meeting on August 14, Council considered and passed a request from A&W.
From their Development Permit Request, “A&W has plans to change the exterior look of the existing building as part of a corporate reimage program that is occurring across Canada. Due to the amount of changes proposed to the exterior material finishes, color and signage, the Applicant has applied for a Development Permit (DP) to address the form and character guidelines within the Official Community Plan.”
Nothing will change with parking or the structure itself. Natural features will be incorporated, along with real local stone from a Port Renfrew quarry. The Orange stucco will be repainted.
Again from the application, “The applicant has proposed to use wood-like colors and a main feature of the front elevation will consist of ribbed steel cladding. There will be an LED illuminated orange aluminum band that will wrap around the building.”
There will also be two new signs, both LED. “The total sign area proposed for the two facade signs and three posters equals 116.5 square feet (10.8 square meters).” A separate application will be made for this, later on in the process.
The developer, who was in the audience galley at the meeting, said the Sooke location is among the first to be done.
