Sooke is about to experience periodic Saturday night entertainment. The Castaways band is hosting an Open Mic Jam at the Sooke Royal Legion on six Saturday nights between May and August. Yes, you read the headline right: Admission is free, and you can bring your kids
Their first date is Saturday May 16, and the event runs from 6 to 10 p.m.
There is plenty of parking in front of the Legion and on Eustace, and both the Legion’s kitchen and bar will be open. Also, this is an event that is open to the public so you don’t need to be a Legion member to attend.
The Open Mic Jam is open to all musicians who want to perform.
We welcome all musicians to take part from beginners to professionals to share the stage,” writes band member Kelly deRocco on their Facebook events page. “Come out for a great evening of entertainment and please help support your local musicians. So lets all sail away together, and make music! Show up early, sign up, and lets all jam!”
The Castaways will have a full set up including a drum kit, amps, keyboards and an amazing sound system, ready and waiting for local talent to perform.
The full cast of Castaways, a Reggae/Rock band, includes Gail Lesowski on Keyboards, Paul DeRocco on Drums and Percussion, John Mason on Bass and Acoustic Guitar, and Kelly DeRocco on Sax and Rhythm Guitar.
