December 3rd, 2017 – Vessel requiring assistance
RCMSAR Station Sooke tasked by JRCC Victoria shortly after 5:00 pm to a vessel requiring assistance off Whiffin Spit.
With the vessel’s main engine disabled, the approximately 4+ knot ebb ripping past the Spit was flowing too hard and preventing the vessel from getting into Sooke Harbour.
The vessel then went aground near the lighthouse.
Crews arrived on scene quickly, secured the vessel, and was able to get the vessel under tow through the strong current and safely to the Public Boat launch.
