I have been a resident of Sooke for nearly four years, My husband and I bought a lovely cabin right across from the main entrance to the Potholes. Something that has been bothering me from day one of living out here: the that fact there are no speed bumps along Sooke River Road going up to the Potholes.
I have recorded numerous times tires screeching and seeing the person zoom by. It’s so dangerous. There are people down there along the road all the time: small children, dogs, wild animals.
When I posted on the matter a few years back (on social media) commenting on this fact, I got called an “old lady” (I’m 32!) and was told to mind my business, to let people have fun and so forth.
I’m not even sure writing this letter will do anything. I guess I’m reaching out to see what direction I should take my complaint that has been bothering me for years now.
My second concern on the Potholes topic, is that there are not very good signs/directions to the Potholes on Sooke Road. We get hundreds of people every year coming to the end of Phillips road where it’s only Private Property, and no park access. We have had huge RVs come down our road only to have to back up quite a ways before being able to turn back. There needs to be better signs around Sooke River road as the access point to the Potholes. How hard can it be to throw up a sign or two, given all the recent construction in that area? Near the end of Phillips road when it goes into a blind corner sharply to the right going down a big hill, there should be signs there as well, clearly saying no river access, potholes aren’t this way, no thru road. Something along those lines.
I just woke up and this was on my mind since I woke to hearing some driver across the river doing some morning donuts, ughhhhh. Well thanks for reading and giving any advice 🙂
