Sponsored refugee family arrives in December, still need a place to call home — 13 Comments

    • They get sponsored in the form of donated income, that income goes towards a residential rental in the community… So they’re saying the sponsorship money is there and ready, but they still need to find a place to rent with that money. And there’s a brutal shortage of affordable rentals in Sooke right now.

    • This family has been waiting years to finally here. The sponsors couldn’t rent a place until they knew for sure the family was coming, and when. The family has been living in temporary conditions for so long, I am sure the sponsors want to do their very best to get the family, at long last, into their own home.

  1. @Sooke Pocket News;
    Is there any possibility of getting a bit more info? Such as, how many bedrooms they will need, and what their price range is?
    Unfortunately I’m in no position to help, other than running a couple searches on UsedVic and Craigslist.
    But I think it might help potential landlords know whether they can help or not if there were a few more specifics on what exactly the family needs? Just a thought 🙂
    Really hope this family finds a place to call home ❤

    • HI Erin, what a kind offer to help! There is a number in the article that you can phone for more information: Howard Taylor at 250.642.0908. Thank you for your efforts. Your kindness is remarkable. -Britt/SPN

  2. Hope they find a place. Once they rent something. It would be good the hear where we can send furniture and clothing. Will keep in mind if I hear of any local jobs.

  3. How long does a sponsored family have their rent..etc paid for them? And who pays this? Are they eligible for social services..medical etc..
