Numerous officers were kept busy on Tuesday evening after a suspicious package was located near the Victoria City Hall, following on the heels of an afternoon bomb threat at the Courthouse.
Officers were called to the area of City Hall just before 10:00 p.m. after somebody located a suspicious package. Numerous officers attended and out of an abundance of caution, cordoned off the area around Centennial Square and City Hall.
VicPD Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) members attended and were able to deem that the suspicious item was not a threat.
Patrol officers, with help from their specially-trained Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) officers and VicPD K9, have given the “all clear” after responding to a bomb threat at the Courthouse on the 800-block of Burdett Avenue just before 4:00 p.m. after B.C. Sheriffs reported they had received a bomb threat. Patrol, Traffic and other officers responded and helped secure the scene and evacuate staff, prisoners and members of the public. Nearby roads were closed out of an abundance of caution.
Working in concert with B.C. Sheriffs, our EDU team and VicPD K9 officers were able to clear the Courthouse. No threatening devices were located and the all clear was given just before 5:30 p.m. Roads were opened a short time afterwards.
No one was injured in the incident, which remains under active and on-going investigation. No arrests have been made.
