Welcome to Hasbah, the Kingdom of Souls, where every beggar has a story and every camel has a tale!
Sooke Youth Show Choir presents a musical production of Aladdin at Edward Milne Community School Theatre June 24, 25 and 26, 2016 under the musical and artistic collaboration of Elena Hoath and Emily Anderson. Based on the centuries old tale of Aladdin and His Magical Lamp, the production features a cast of talented local performers from ages four to 16.
Filled with magic, mayhem and a flying carpet, audience participation is a key element to this production of the story about a street rat who discovers love at first sight, a magic lamp, triumphs over evil and is finally granted his wish to marry the princess.
“I couldn’t have asked for a more talented cast,” raves Accompanist and Co-Director Elena Hoath. “The kids have put so much time and effort into making this show special, and with the support of some amazing parents and volunteers, we’ve done it! Co-Directing with Emily (Anderson) has been a real joy and a fantastic team experience.”
Sage Easton-Levy and Rhianna Smith share the title role of Aladdin in alternating performances throughout the production and are joined by Raven Van Netten as Jasmine, Nate Holmes as Genie, Mercer Balzer as the evil Jafar, Laura van den Berk as Iago, and Sunny Van Netten as the Sultan. A fantastic group of enthusiastic choristers in a variety of roles will round out the cast.
“Playing the lead of Aladdin has been an exciting role for me to act as the opposite gender complete with singing and dancing,” says Sage Easton-Levy. “I love that there are many families in the choir, including myself and two of my younger siblings who are also part of the chorus. I really enjoy working with the wonderful cast and crew who are all so energetic and fun.”
With several songs that everyone knows and loves including “A Whole New World” and “Friend Like Me,” this promises to be a great family adventure!
