The sharing economy: a new paradigm shift for both entrepreneurs and consumers
[sam id=”4″ codes=”true”]
Following is CBC’s Terry O’Reilly (“Under the Influence”) on the Sharing Economy. While he doesn’t come from Sooke, I do think Sooke is wonderfully positioned for a sharing economy. I think there are crazy opportunities for both entrepreneurs and consumers. Everyone wins, except Big Business (and boy oh boy is Big Business mad!). Anyways, give Mr. O’Reilly a listen. He’s one of my favs.

From the Under the Influence website:
Millennials have been conditioned by the Great Recession to shed the responsibility of ownership. They want the music, but not the CD. They want the ride, but not the car. That attitude has an enormous impact on marketers, as the biggest consumer demographic in history would rather share than buy.
Hi Britt, great post, thank you. FYI Two years back, Transition Sooke set up a local chapter of Streetbank, a collaborative consumption network. It’s pretty quiet at the moment, but it has big potential for locals who want to share useful items and find new homes for stuff they no longer need. If you ever have need of an aluminum extension ladder, for instance … 🙂 Register here to join the 88 Sookies currently enrolled: http://www.streetbank.com/splash?locale=en
Indeed the sharing economy is here and with it creating great fields of opportunities for entrepreneurs. There are dozens of diamonds in the rough here in Sooke alone as Britt points out. Let’s go get ’em!
